About Our Aria
Our Aria is for adults who are doing well. It offers a practice: the
practice of engaging conversation. Conversation is an art, like music
or painting, and like them it can be practiced. Here you remember,
imagine, read and talk, out loud, with AI companions.
We aim for conversation that is engaging, expansive and eloquent: you
take part and offer more of your own, the talk opens onto new ground,
and the words are worth hearing. That aim is the standard we hold our
own work to. It is not a promise of any result, and no visit is
guaranteed to reach it.
The companions are AI-generated literary characters, not people. What
they say is creative expression, not advice of any kind: not medical,
legal, financial, psychological or professional advice.
Our Aria is not a medical, mental health, therapy or care service, and
it does not diagnose. It is not a
substitute for a doctor, for care, or for time with other people. If
you need care, please talk to your doctor or someone you trust. And
spend time with the people in your life: no conversation with an AI
takes their place.
Several state laws, California’s among them, set a rule for AI
conversation services: when a person expresses thoughts of suicide or
self-harm, the service must tell them about a crisis line, and it must
publish how it does this. Our Aria follows that rule, and our full
protocol is on the Safety page. An automatic
check reads what you say. When it finds such words, it is designed to
tell you about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, in the
companion’s reply or at the start of the next one, and to keep a
record that it did. It is a computer check. It can miss what a person
would notice, and it can be wrong, so do not rely on it. Apart from
this check, Our Aria does not watch over your health or wellbeing, and
it is not an emergency service.
This is the first section of our Terms of Service.
